Tara Shushtarian is a committed advocate for both environmental sustainability and social justice, with a diverse background in activism and community service. Her passion for creating positive change began in her college years, where she took part in significant social and environmental movements, including the renowned “Chipko” movement.
Since moving to Canada in 2002, Tara has been a driving force behind numerous initiatives focused on climate action and social equity. She played a key role in Burnaby’s adoption of a Climate Emergency Plan in 2019 through her work with Force of Nature and her position on the city’s environmental committee. Tara is also a strong advocate for Indigenous rights and believes firmly that climate justice and social justice are inseparable. Her involvement with the BC Poverty Reduction Coalition and the All on Board transit campaign underscores her commitment to equity and accessible public services.
As Co-Chair of the West Coast Climate Action Network and a key participant in the Frack Free movement, Tara continues to push for a just transition to a green economy that benefits all communities. Her dedication to participatory democracy and proportional representation through Fair Vote Canada further highlights her commitment to building a fairer, more inclusive future.
