Selected to run as the BC Greens Candidate in 2020, Nicole entered the race late and came in a close second with 31% of the vote. She then easily won the City Councillor seat in the Nelson by-election with 75% of the vote and the highest-ever youth turnout.
Nicole has been working tirelessly to be your next MLA by traveling across the new Kootenay Central riding, engaging in thoughtful discussions about critical issues that affect everyone. Her focus remains on political representation, rural healthcare, affordability, water security, and housing for workers and young families—issues that are at the forefront of our shared priorities. She has worked in government for ministries of education, industry and trade and Elections Canada and held the roles of Board Chair, Treasurer and Executive Director in several non-profit organizations.

After a lifetime of voting Liberal – I’m voting Green this time. I’m voting for Nicole Charlwood. I’m voting, not as a consumer looking for the best tax break or grant for my pocketbook; but as a citizen, looking for the best vision(s) that will improve the prosperity of British Columbians.
Short-sighted payoffs haven’t worked – policies focused on the future are the answer.
As an active community member, political figure, mother and small business supporter, Nicole sees the challenges small communities face. My deep sadness in watching the NDP fulfill the previous Liberal government’s LNG and Site C policies (after campaigning against them), taking the tolls off the bridges and never meeting climate targets makes it impossible for me to believe their pre-election statements. Climate change, healthCARE and a solid economic platform are all offered with promised accountability with the Green Party. It’s not a “wasted vote” but one that promises our voice.
I’ve supported the NDP in the past, but I’ve grown increasingly disappointed by their lack of follow-through on key policies. That’s why this election, I’m thrilled to be endorsing Nicole Charlwood of the Green Party. Since getting to know Nicole in 2022, I’ve been deeply inspired by her unwavering commitment to ensuring a prosperous future for our planet. Nicole has a profound understanding of the importance of small businesses and recognizes the value of economic opportunity.
Vote for Nicole Charlwood. She is a friend, a neighbour and a true champion for Kootenay residents. I have seen her show up and fight for food sovereignty, clean water, old-growth forests, active transportation and more. She’s fun, approachable and a real problem solver. She’s also made the most effort to make personal connections with me. Building connections is the foundation for building community. Nicole has proven to be the best candidate to represent our regional interests at the provincial level.
What excites me the most about having Nicole as the Green MLA for the Kootenays, is innovation. The Greens offer a new approach to our old problems, not just throwing more money at them expecting the problems to go away. One of Nicole’s innovative strategies is to put an MLAs office in Creston to give locals direct access to services. Together with her ability to have an independent voice in the legislature, Nicole will provide more robust representation for the Kootenays.
Nicole has an outstanding track record, particularly on the serious issues facing young people. At this critical moment, we need leaders willing to take an unwavering stand for humanity in the face of the climate crisis and ballooning unaffordability and wealth inequality.
