Dr. Lisa Gunderson, our deputy leader, also known as Dr. Lisa or Dr.G, is an award-winning educator and equity consultant dedicated to addressing the needs of underserved populations. With a PhD in clinical child psychology from the University of Southern California, her work focuses on racialized youth. As the founder of One Love Consulting, she provides services in mental wellness, racial equity, and anti-racism to various organizations, including ministries, businesses, and educational institutions.

Dr. Gunderson is a respected community leader, regularly speaking at local schools and organizations. She represented Mt. Douglas on the Victoria Confederation of Parent Advisory Council and has represented AHAVI on the Greater Victoria Police Diversity Advisory Committee and is a former board member of the Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Center Society. She also collaborates with the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre Project Respect’s Black Youth Empowerment Bystander Intervention Program, as well as serving on the Planning, Transportation, and Economic Development Advisory Committee in Saanich.

A former California tenured professor and associate program director for CityU Canada’s Masters of Counseling program, Dr. Gunderson has advised the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General on fair and impartial policing. Her commitment to equity and education has earned her numerous awards, including the 2022 Cultural Diversity Award.

Dr. Gunderson, a first-generation African American of Jamaican ancestry, lives in Victoria with her family and enjoys baking, movies, reading, and travelling.
