David Evans
Juan de Fuca-MalahatDavid Evans is a dedicated father, business owner, and entrepreneur living in the traditional territory of the T’Sou-ke Nation. With a degree in communications, he has built a diverse career in radio and as a writer for regional, national, and international magazines.
David’s career journey is marked by a decade of work as a farmer and horticulturist before he founded a maintenance gardening business in Victoria in 1995. Remarkably, in its early years, David’s business relied solely on hand tools and bicycles, fueled by countless granola bars—a testament to his commitment to sustainability and hard work.
From 2007 to 2023, David owned and operated Sooke’s beloved community hub, The Stick in the Mud Coffee House. In July 2023, he sold the café and bakery to a cooperative formed by staff, customers, and community members. He now focuses on his latest venture, the Stick in the Mud’s Coffee Roastoreum, a coffee wholesaler.
David brings a unique perspective to the political landscape, recognizing that the status quo cannot solve the problems it has created. Through his extensive work with the public, he has listened to the evolving concerns of his neighbors. In the Juan de Fuca Malahat riding, pressing community issues include traffic, the cost of living, housing insecurity, healthcare, political division, drought, and the climate crisis.
Vote for David Evans, a leader who understands the challenges we face and is committed to bringing about real change. With his diverse background, community involvement, and innovative spirit, David is the candidate who will champion sustainable solutions and ensure our voices are heard at the provincial level. Let’s work together to build a better future for all.
Support for David
I proudly endorse David Evans as the BC Green Party candidate for Juan de Fuca-Malahat.
David is deeply committed to protecting the environment and ensuring that all voices in our community are heard. David will bring a fresh, thoughtful approach to politics and will work tirelessly to represent the people of Juan de Fuca-Malahat with integrity and compassion.
I’m proud to endorse David Evans for the BC Green Party. David shares the same values that are important to me — environmental sustainability, social justice, and responsible economic growth. He’s committed to putting people and the planet first, ensuring a future where our communities thrive in harmony with nature. He is a force for change, a voice for the people, and a champion for our planet.
“Over the 20 years I have known David Evans, he has earned my respect as a highly intelligent public figure who listens attentively. Mr. Evans possesses the requisite skills to reduce and refocus the current excessive BC government expenditures under the NDP while striving to reduce green house gas emissions. David is focused on finding solutions to our five growing insecurities under the NDP: health, housing, the cost of living, food, and climate. If you want positive change, don’t vote for the same old parties that are responsible for our multiple local predicaments, lack of infrastructure, and the humanitarian crisis that we are currently suffering through. The best option for much needed and immediate positive change in our riding is David Evans and the BC Greens!“
I’ve known David Evans for over 12 years and feel he will bring a refreshing change to our region! Over the years he has had his ear to the ground and has always listened to what us locals have had to say. I’m excited to see what he can do, Go David Go!
“I’m supporting David Evans because he is very knowledgeable about green solutions and he lives by green values. I find him to be smart and resourceful. He will be a great asset to the BC Greens in the Legislature. I’m certain David will work hard for his constituents in our exciting new electoral district Juan de Fuca-Malahat.”
“We all need to be concerned about the long list of problems we face- housing insecurity, overwhelmed health care, traffic snarls, declining salmon, forests burning. What is offered by the mainstream parties – business as usual- is not working. We need a new direction and that is why I am supporting David Evans of the BC Greens. He understands that the status quo is not capable of solving the problems it has created. As a community activist and in my political career, I have seen how critical it is for an elected official to have the vision, the intelligence, the communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with others to get things done. David Evans has these attributes in abundance.”
I’m excited to endorse David Evans as the BC Green Party candidate for Juan de Fuca-Malahat. David is exactly the kind of leader we need — someone who listens, who cares, and who will take real action on issues like affordable housing, climate resilience, and community well-being.
I wholeheartedly support David Evans as the Provincial Green Party MLA candidate. With a background in farming and horticulture and as the owner of the Stick’s Coffee Roastoreum, David has been a cornerstone of our community, embodying sustainability and local engagement. David’s vision for our future is one of collaboration, inclusivity, and environmental stewardship, which is exactly what is needed to address the issues associated with growing traffic, cost of living, housing insecurity, healthcare, political division, drought, and the climate crisis.
“I’ve known David Evans for years through my roles as a job developer and school board trustee. He was a reliable employer who warmly welcomed new team members and positively influenced our Sooke community with his leadership, humor, and sincerity. As a Trustee and former Chair of the Climate Change Working Group, David and I have discussed extensively the role of education in tackling climate change. He understands its potential to drive meaningful change. I will be voting for David Evans in the upcoming election.”
I came to the South Island in 2022. I was nervous about moving to a small town but, when I stopped in for coffee at “The Stick”, I was immediately greeted by a friendly face and a safe space. David Evans welcomed me to the community and to his business in Sooke, Stick In The Mud. At that cafe I watched David treat strangers and regulars with equal kindness. David listens and watches, and when I told him I wrote a book, he bought it and read it. David finds common ground, making people feel at home, and when he sold his cafe, it became a co-op because of the culture David created. The cafe continues to be a success. I endorse Mr. Evans wholeheartedly. David is capable and driven to give back to future generations, to create policies that will sustainably grow the Juan de Fuca region, and to leave it better than we received it.
“I usually vote NDP, but I’m confident that David Evans is the best and most effective person for this work. From #Dividedby14 to The Stick in the Mud, he has actively led improvements in our region for over a decade. With the BC Greens, David has the freedom to represent us based on the 6 Core Principles of the party. Candidates of other parties have to vote the way the party whip tells them to, and that will not benefit the unique needs of our riding. I’ll be voting for Evans, and I hope you do, too!
The business interests have acutely penetrated all politics. The BC Greens have not been penetrated. We all want our Old Growth Forests protected as is our duty. It is time to wake up. We are opened and operated by our Great Mother and need to be embraced and guided by her as she holds us to her bosom. We need to listen to our Great Mother and get the world to listen to her. If we do not listen to her we will expedite our own demise through this climate crisis. We will not be able to sustain our lives anymore. The BC Greens is the only political party that is not owned and operated by business interests that would sacrifice Nature for business profit.
David Evans has run a successful small business for many years, and has an in-depth knowledge of local and provincial issues and excellent communication skills. As the former CVRD director for Mill Bay/Malahat, I can say that David is exactly the right candidate to bring together and represent both South Cowichan, Sooke, and Metchosin in the new riding of Juan de Fuca-Malahat.
“I’m supporting David Evans for four reasons. (1) His character: he works hard and he’s a builder. (2) David’s experience: he’s a young business person and very different from your typical politician. (3) David’s ideas: ask him about traffic, health care, forest fires, the climate emergency or anything else – the guy has practical ideas that will change our community and our province for the better. (4) He can win: the other candidates are going to split the “same old” vote and David’s going to win the “time for real change” vote!”
“Support the BC Greens for meaningful action on climate change, improved health care, affordable housing, and a prosperous business community. David Evans will excel as our MLA; he is a deeply committed, approachable, and hard-working community builder.”
“For those of us who care passionately about environmental issues, especially land use and resource management, successive NDP governments have been a HUGE disappointment. Fortunately, BC’s Greens are champions for these issues and the only reasonable choice for a future that’s not only environmentally sound but also socially and economically progressive. Our riding has an exceptional candidate in David Evans – intelligent, thoughtful, a man of integrity. I’ll vote for David, and I encourage you to do the same!”
