Rob Botterell brings a lifetime of dedication to public service, social justice and protection of the environment to his role as Member of the Legislative Assembly for Saanich North and the Islands. With deep roots on the BC coast, Rob has built an extensive career at the intersection of government, law, and advocacy.
Rob’s journey in public service began with the BC Ministry of Finance, where he worked on significant policy initiatives. He later led the development of BC’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, a landmark piece of legislation that continues to enhance transparency and accountability in government. For over 25 years, Rob practiced private law, representing local governments and First Nations. He worked tirelessly to advance Indigenous rights, economic equality, and environmental sustainability.
Rob is a passionate advocate for the issues that matter most to the people of Saanich North and the Islands. As a resident of Sidney, North Saanich, and Pender Island over the years, he has firsthand knowledge of the challenges facing local communities. His work with over 800 waterfront residents, First Nations, and the province to resolve waterfront access issues exemplifies his commitment to collaboration and practical solutions.
Beyond his legal and legislative accomplishments, Rob has been a fierce defender of BC’s agricultural heritage and a champion of farmers. He played a pivotal role in organizing resistance to the Site C dam, highlighting the need to balance economic development and agriculture, environmental preservation and the rights of Indigenous communities.
Rob is deeply committed to protecting the region’s unique natural environment, strengthening local economies, ensuring affordable housing and access to high-quality health care for all. He will continue to work with First Nations in Saanich North to advance reconciliation.
