2025 Leadership Contest

// Home 9 Leadership Contest

A New Era for the BC Greens

With Sonia Furstenau stepping down as leader, the BC Green Party is entering an exciting new chapter. Sonia’s leadership was defined by unwavering integrity, a commitment to evidence-based policy, and a tireless dedication to the people of British Columbia. Under her leadership, the BC Greens championed climate action, health care reform, and government accountability—pushing for real solutions to the challenges facing our province.

Now, we look to the future. This leadership contest is an opportunity for a bold new vision, fresh energy, and a renewed commitment to building a sustainable, just, and prosperous British Columbia.

While MLAs Rob Botterell and Jeremy Valeriote have chosen to focus on their vital work in the Legislature and their constituencies rather than run for leader, Jeremy has stepped up as interim leader to ensure stability and continuity until a new leader is chosen.

Who Will Step Up?

The BC Greens are looking for passionate, principled leaders ready to inspire and engage British Columbians. We hope to see candidates step forward who:

  • Believe in a sustainable and just future for our province and are eager to put forward bold, evidence-based policies.
  • Are excited to organize, connect, and build our movement—expanding our network of supporters across BC ahead of the next election, whenever it may come.
  • Embody the values of the BC Greens—integrity, transparency, and a commitment to working for the public good.

This is more than a leadership race. It’s a chance to shape the future of BC politics.

Are you ready to take on the challenge?

Key Highlights of the Leadership Contest:

  • Commitment to accessibility and equity: Any party member aged 16 or older can vote, and membership remains free for youth under 25.
