John Rustad continues to prove he’s not ready to lead, platform full of fantasies, not solutions

Oct 15, 2024

VICTORIA, BC — The BC Conservative Party has once again demonstrated that they are more interested in scoring political points than in offering serious solutions for British Columbians.

“John Rustad’s 114-page platform is a messy and outdated vision that ignores poverty, inequality, and science. It offers little more than a collection of backward-looking, half-formed, and often contradictory ideas,” said BC Green Party leader Sonia Furstenau.

“The BC Conservatives are not ready to govern. Their budget relies on magical thinking, assuming 5.4% annual economic growth every year for the next six years, without any plan on how to achieve this. Investing in stranded assets while accelerating the deforestation of BC is not a serious plan for economic growth.

“The BC Greens are the only party offering a progressive vision for BC built on clean energy, equality, and opportunity. In contrast, the BC Conservatives want to drag the province back to the old BC Liberal days, where corporate interests were prioritized over people, allowing for worsening inequality, environmental disasters, and neglecting critical social services.

“Meanwhile, the BC NDP agree with many of the Conservative proposals, including abolishing the carbon tax, expanding and continuing to subsidize LNG, and leaving people with disabilities in deepening poverty. Neither party offers a clear solution to homelessness, and both parties are fine with multinational investment companies owning more and more of BC’s housing.

“We need enough Greens MLAs elected to ensure that no single party’s agenda shapes this province for the next four years.”
