Victoria, BC / Lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen) Territory – Camille Currie, BC Green MLA Candidate for Esquimalt-Colwood and BC Healthcare Matters champion, has issued the following statement:
“David Eby’s government has expanded the healthcare budget from $20 billion in 2020 to $33 billion in 2024. Yet, despite this increased spending, British Columbians continue to face longer wait times, a lack of access to walk-in clinics, near-vacant UPCCs, frequent emergency room closures, and a fragmented medical record system that puts patient safety at risk.
“The Conservative push to privatize healthcare will only worsen the strain on our system, stretching our limited resources even further. Meanwhile, the government’s claims of success are unsubstantiated and fail to address the reality: accessing healthcare in B.C. is harder and more inequitable than ever before.
“The BC Greens are committed to reforming healthcare with patients at the core. We believe in a model like the ‘Dogwood Model,’ which focuses on team-based, longitudinal care, ensuring that every British Columbian has access to a primary care home. It’s time we prioritize patient outcomes over selective data and bureaucratic measures.”
