BC Greens Announce Seven New Candidates for 2024 B.C. Election
Victoria, BC / Lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen) Territory – The BC Green Party is introducing a diverse group of seven candidates for the upcoming 2024 B.C. election. These individuals come from various backgrounds, including political science, business, environmental advocacy, and emergency management, bringing fresh perspectives to the challenges British Columbia faces.
Sonia Furstenau, Leader of the BC Greens, expressed her excitement about the new slate of candidates: “What stands out about these candidates is their ability to merge expertise with genuine community leadership. Douglas Gook is committed to sustainable forestry and ecological commerce, running to represent Nechako Lakes with a focus on environmental justice.
John Kidder advocates for voters’ right to a Green choice in Cariboo-Chilcotin, continuing decades of environmental and social activism.
Michael Barkusky offers over 37 years of experience in economics and finance, advocating for sustainable growth in Vancouver-Quilchena.
Subhadarshi Tripathy brings a global perspective and collaborative spirit to solving North Vancouver-Seymour’s community challenges.

Bryce Tippe holds a degree in Political Science and advocates for electoral reform. Passionate about creating a more transparent and equitable political system, Bryce is currently taking a gap year before pursuing law school.
Colin Boyd – Surrey City Centre
Colin Boyd is a data analyst with a strong background in business intelligence. He is focused on implementing evidence-based policies that balance economic growth with environmental sustainability, aiming to create a prosperous and sustainable future for all British Columbians.
Douglas Gook – Nechako Lakes
Douglas Gook is a third-generation settler with a lifelong passion for environmental justice and sustainable forestry. A dedicated advocate for ecological commerce and biodynamic farming, Douglas has worked for decades to advance sustainable practices in the Cariboo region.
John Kidder – Cariboo-Chilcotin
A founding member of the BC Greens, John Kidder has been a staunch advocate for environmental stewardship and social equity for decades. Running in Cariboo-Chilcotin, John is committed to providing voters with a Green alternative and advancing sustainable forestry and economic policies.
Michael Barkusky – Vancouver-Quilchena
An economist with over 37 years of experience, Michael Barkusky has long advocated for harmonizing economic growth with environmental protection. His extensive experience in public policy, finance, and nonprofit work makes him a strong candidate for Vancouver Quilchena.
Subhadarshi Tripathy – North Vancouver-Seymour
With over 20 years of experience in the media and entertainment industry, Subhadarshi Tripathy has worked globally to shape content that reflects the values of the communities he serves. He brings a collaborative approach to solving the challenges faced by North Vancouver-Seymour, with a focus on sustainability and local resilience.
Wendy Hayko – Vancouver-Little Mountain
Wendy Hayko has over two decades of experience in emergency management, including disaster recovery and climate change response. Her commitment to addressing climate change and her experience working with First Nations and local governments make her a strong advocate for resilient communities.
