Lək̓ʷəŋən [LEKWUNGEN] TERRITORY / VICTORIA B.C. – BC Greens Leader, Sonia Furstenau released the following statement on the announcement of Premier David Eby’s newly appointed cabinet:
“The BC Green Party extends its congratulations to Premier David Eby and the newly appointed cabinet. We are pleased to see strong representation of women in leadership roles.
“We are particularly pleased to see Niki Sharma appointed as Deputy Premier and Attorney General, Tamara Davidson as Minister of Environment and Parks, and Brenda Bailey as Minister of Finance. These critical roles will have a significant impact on shaping the future of British Columbia.
“This government has significant work ahead to address the urgent issues British Columbians face, particularly healthcare, affordable housing, and economic security. We hope to see this government demonstrate quickly that it is focused on delivering the public services people rely on.
“It is also essential that this government does not ignore the need for a rapid transition away from fossil fuels and decisive action on climate change. Climate change and affordability are directly linked. High energy costs stemming from fossil fuels are a significant part of affordability challenges, but so too are the rising costs caused by climate events such as droughts, floods, and wildfires, which will only increase without serious action.
“The BC Green Party holds high expectations for collaboration to build a sustainable and equitable future for all British Columbians. We look forward to working together to meet the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”
